New recruits invited to join cadet detachment

Adventurous young people are being invited to join the Abbey Detachment of the Army Cadet Force (ACF).

Based at Sobraon Barracks on Burton Road, Lincoln, the detachment meets on Wednesday nights, 7-9.15pm, and is recruiting for the 2025-26 season.

“ The Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation dedicated to helping young people build essential life skills such as teamwork, confidence, resilience, and self-discipline,” said Detachment Commander Capt James Disley.

ACF can chart its history back to 1859 when a number of schools formed units for the defence of the UK in response to the threat of invasion by France.

The threat receded but units remained and, over time, more schools formed units which evolved into the Junior Officers’ Training Corps, administered by the War Office and over time became ACF.

Now ACF aims to provide every young person with a challenging, stimulating, and enjoyable experience in a safe and supportive environment.

Abbey Detachment’s ‘Be More’ recruitment campaign includes the poster below.

“The poster highlights some of our outstanding cadets, who serve as inspiring role models for their peers and the wider community,” explained Capt Disley.

“This is the perfect opportunity for those interested in shooting, fieldcraft, first aid, DofE, adventurous training, drill, trips, and much more. At Abbey, we value the importance of teamwork and are committed to building the leaders of tomorrow.”
