Volunteers needed for Lincoln's new tool library

Lincoln’s new tool library has opened with a host of equipment people can borrow, but needs more volunteers to extend its opening hours.

EarthLincs CEC (Climate Emergency Centre) opened Stuff to Borrow at the Mint Lane Hub on Beaumont Fee with the aid of a grant from the City of Lincoln Council’s allocation from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

EarthLincs volunteer, Rosemary Robinson, explained: "Members join for a nominal £1 fee and are then able to borrow items from our library at low cost. Items can be booked and paid for online or by coming into our Saturday drop-in at Mint between 2 and 4pm.

“We currently have over 60 items to hire, including DIY and gardening tools, home and baking ware, party lights, gazebo and PA and more.

“We are open to receiving any unwanted tools, cluttering up people's garages and sheds.  We would also like to recruit more volunteers so that we can extend our opening hours - please get in touch if you'd like to support this exciting and much-needed initiative."

Tool libraries have become popular community resources throughout the UK. They reduce the need for people to buy items of equipment and for householders to accumulate and store under-used items.

They also encourage the sharing of the planet's resources; facilitate a sharing community ethos; reduce waste and CO2 emissions and reduce impact on the environment by preserving the earth’s resources.
