Art Talks fundraiser
This month’s Arts Talk aims to provide food for thought and raise cash for funds.
The events are staged by Open Art Lincs (OPAL) at St Nicholas Church Hall and organisers, Kevin Byron and Hilary Bower explained running costs are straining finances.
“The monthly Art Talks are run on a financial shoestring with outgoings in room rental and speaker fees only occasionally balancing takings at the door. In order to keep the seat prices fixed at £5, the next Art Talk will have no speaker fee and aim to be a fund-raiser for future events.”
Kevin will update the audience at tomorrow’s (April 21) event on the ‘Two Cultures Debate’ about science versus art.
“It will discuss whether or not the so-called gap between these two cultures - identified by C.P.Snow in his famous lecture in 1959 - has narrowed or widened in recent decades.”
A scientist and novelist Snow argued that Western society was divided into the two cultures and that the gap between the two was an impediment to solving society’s problems.
Apart from organising art exhibitions and talks, Kevin has a background in scientific research and education.
The Melting Snow Arts Talk at St Nicolas Church Hall, Newport, Lincoln, LN1 3DP, starts at 7pm with £5 admission. Book at https://www.open-art-lincs.com/art-talks
