Step back into 1980’s video games – ARCADE review

Step back into the nostalgia of 1980’s video games… what unique journey will you embark on?

Darkfield’s ARCADE is in Lincoln for a limited time and Hello Lincoln intern Katie Seller reports that it is no ordinary arcade.

Step into the container and choose your fate. Arcade is a 30-minute audio-immersive piece created by Darkfield. As the show begins you are plunged into complete darkness, all your senses are heightened, and you rely solely on the audio from the headphones. Arcade uses 360-degree binaural sound and sensory effects, creating an experience that plays tricks on your mind.

Entering the body of your avatar, Milk, you gain full control of the protagonist of this story. You make the choices and each one leads you down a different path. Placed in a world of constant war you are in a difficult position to know which choice is the correct one, who’s on your side and who isn’t.

I left questioning if free will exists in a world of endless conflict and if you are on the right side of the fight. It seems frightening but it’s not too far off from reality. If you are a fan of the Netflix series, Black Mirror, this is the experience for you.

There are 30 different endings which you can experience. Speaking to other audience members after the show, we all took a different route, we all had a different story to tell

Much like a video game, it is an experience which you try again. I am itching to go back, to make different choices and experience a different ending.

Why not take a trip to The Lawn and choose your own path. Maybe you’ll win, maybe you’ll lose.
