Waterstones Children’s Book Festival returns to city

Youngsters can discover the joys of reading when the Waterstones Children’s Book Festival returns to Lincoln this half term and will include some well-known authors.

Events will be held across the city from Friday to Sunday, February 13-15, at various venues including The Engine Shed and Lincoln Central Library.

Celebrating reading, writing and illustration, the festival will feature author events, comic and writing workshops, storytelling, draw-alongs, craft activities, character costume appearances, and free school events.

Last year’s Festival in Lincoln featured 34 individual events and the three free school events were attended by 700 children.

The festival kicks off with free school events in The Engine Shed, featuring Neill Cameron, Phil Earle and Iqbal Hussain talking about their latest books and answering questions from attending pupils.

Fiona Lumbers will also share the latest book in the Luna Loves series for younger readers at Lincoln Central Library.

On Saturday and Sunday there’s a stellar line-up of authors and illustrators including Cressida Cowell (below) talking about her How To Train Your Dragon series and Liz Pichon celebrating 15 years of the Tom Gates books.

Other events will feature bestselling children’s authors Hannah Gold, Robin Stevens, Sheena Dempsey, and Phil Earle, a comic book workshop with Jack Noel, family sessions with Jamie Hammond, Ryan Crawford, Serena Patel and Dr Sheena Kanani

There will also be creative writing workshops with Judith Eagle and Nat Harrison while Jane Riordan will lead storytelling celebrating the 100th year of Winnie-The-Pooh.

Additional activities will take place in the Waterstones Lincoln bookshop, creating wide-reaching access to events throughout the city. Full event details and tickets can be found here: https://www.waterstones.com/waterstones-childrens-book-festival-lincoln
