County joins 2025 Rescue Me! Recycle campaign

Overlooked household items thrown in the wrong bin take centre stage in the 22nd annual Recycle Week -  the UK’s biggest annual celebration of recycling.

This year, the Lincolnshire Waste Partnership is joining organisers Recycle Now in supporting the Rescue Me! Recycle campaign, which shines a spotlight on “missed capture” items – everyday things that too often end up in the rubbish but can be recycled.

Following the success of last year’s campaign, 'Rescue Me! Recycle' returns with three new recruits to the recycling mission – toothpaste tubes shampoo bottles and foil. They join the list of items already championed:

  • Trigger sprays
  • Aerosols
  • Yoghurt pots
  • Aftershave and perfume bottles
  • Toilet roll tubes

Recycling campaign group WRAP estimates that approximately 79% of households miss two items or more on average per week, meaning 2.3 billion of these items are binned every year when they could be recycled. The waste partnership is putting these items front and centre and reminding residents of the importance of putting the ‘Right Thing in the ‘Right Bin’.

Cllr Danny Brookes, Chairman of Lincolnshire Waste Partnership, said: “Lincolnshire is making great strides in recycling. By rescuing those missed items, we can make our recycling efforts even more impactful. Let’s keep up the great work and make our county’s recycling better than ever before.”

Catherine David, CEO, WRAP, said: “Recycle Week continues to be a powerful moment to inspire action across the UK, and this year’s ‘Rescue Me! Recycle’ campaign is no exception.

“By highlighting everyday items - things we often overlook - we’re helping people see the real impact of small changes. Thanks to innovation and collaboration, more of these items can now be recycled than ever before.

“Together with local authorities and communities, we’re making it easier to do the right thing and keep valuable materials in use. Let’s rescue these items from the rubbish and give them a second life.”
