Cancer support service for patients and families

Cancer support service for patients and families

People affected by cancer are being reminded of a support service offered at Lincoln County Hospital.

Patients, their families, friends and carers can visit or contact the Macmillan Cancer Support and Information Service for wide-ranging advice covering issues such as money, work, emotional impacts and relationships.

“The information centres provide a warm and friendly environment with bookable appointments” said a spokesperson for United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

“You are able to contact the service without being referred by your surgeon or doctor. The service is available whether they have a cancer diagnosis, need help and advice on behalf of a friend or relative, or are worried about cancer. Health and social care professionals can also use the centre as a resource for themselves or for information and support for their patients.”

There are three Macmillan centres in Lincolnshire – the others are in the Boston and Grantham main hospitals – which are currently under-used as people have only known about them if they were in hospital for treatment.

An awareness campaign has been launched to raise awareness about the support service, which has been funded by Macmillan and will be monitored by the charity to assess the future of centres.

The service is available in Lincoln Monday to Friday, 9am – 4pm, 01522 573799.

Out of hours people can still contact the Macmillan support line on 0808 808 00 00 or visit the Macmillan website.
