Deputy Chief Constable Julia Debenham retires after 32 years in policing
Lincolnshire Police is bidding a fond farewell to Deputy Chief Constable Julia Debenham, who retires this week after a distinguished 32-year career in policing.
DCC Debenham joined Lincolnshire Police in the summer of 2022, bringing decades of experience from across the East Midlands.
Reflecting on her 32-year career, DCC Julia Debenham said she was drawn to policing from the very start, seeking a role that was both challenging and meaningful.
“When I left University with a History degree in 1992, I knew that I wanted to do something that was fun and challenging with my life. I wanted whatever I did to be useful and to have a positive impact on others. Policing has delivered on all fronts,” she said.
Throughout her career, DCC Debenham progressed into leadership roles. She spoke fondly of her memories, saying, “I have so many highlights and cherished memories and I have always felt, whatever role I have done, that it was worthwhile and was making a difference to our communities. That is what makes policing such a privilege and such a worthwhile thing to be a part of.”
But for DCC Debenham, the greatest reward has been the people she has worked alongside. “For all of the adventure and excitement that policing brings, the main highlight of my career has been the exceptional people that I have worked with,” she said.
“The brilliant police staff, both operational and non-operational, whose work is so important and sometimes is not fully recognised, the brilliant police officers whose professionalism, bravery, and determination to make the world a better place by doing the right thing whatever their role, and of course our communities who support us in so many different ways.”
Lincolnshire Police thanked DCC Debenham for her service and wished her well for the next chapter of her life.
Chief Constable Paul Gibson paid tribute to her contributions, saying: “I have had the pleasure to work with Julia over many years in our various policing roles in the East Midlands, and more closely during the last 18 months within Lincolnshire Police.
“She has been a fantastic Deputy Chief Constable and a cornerstone for the organisation. She has led the force with great skill and experience, insight and compassion, and always with a sense of endless positivity and good humour.
“I would like to thank Julia for her many years of service to public duty and wish her every success in the opportunities that lay ahead. I know Julia is looking forward to spending more time with her family and I send good wishes of health and happiness for the future.”
As part of leadership changes, Chris Davison has moved from Assistant Chief Constable to Deputy Chief Constable, and Kate Anderson has joined ACC Nikki Mayo as an Assistant Chief Constable.
