Babies cry – you can cope
If your baby’s crying is getting you down it is ok to walk away if they are safe – that’s the message from the ICON campaign which supports parents and protects infants.
The campaign is being supported by Lincolnshire Police as means of preventing potential tragedies when mums lose control and shake crying babies.
“Every person needs to know that shaking a baby can result in abusive head trauma. It's ok to step away if your baby is safe and the crying feels too much,” said a police spokesperson.
ICON is a reminder to parents that not being able to stop a baby crying does not mean they are doing anything wrong, or that they have a ‘bad’ or ‘naughty’ baby and the letters are a reminder of what to do when feeling overwhelmed.
I – Infant crying is normal and will stop
C – Comfort methods can sometimes soothe your baby
O – It’s OK to walk away for a few minutes if your baby is safe and the crying feels too much
N – Never shake or hurt a baby
