Bailgate works update
Highways chiefs have issued an overview of progress on the Bailgate improvement project.
The £1.7m scheme carried out by Lincolnshire County Council started on January 19 and involves the removal and relaying of almost 50,000 stone blocks along Bailgate with around 32,000 being reused in the work
Achieved in January
- Repaired existing drainage and lateral in Phase 1
- Lifted all existing setts in Phase 1 and removed the broken setts
- Started re-laying the old setts whilst mixing in new setts from the White Hart up Bailgate
Planned in February
- Complete laying of old and new setts in Phase 1 (Westgate to Eastgate)
- Move onto Phase 2 (Newport to Westgate)
- Lifting existing setts
- Removing broken setts
- Laying existing and new setts on new mortar base and joints

Project phasing
- Phase 1 – between Westgate and The White Hart Hotel
- Phase 2 – between Newport Arch and Westgate
- Phase 3 – junction that links Westgate and Bailgate, located outside of Prince of Wales and Greggs
- Phase 4 – between Newport and Newport Arch, along with Westgate between Greggs and The Castle Hotel
- Phase 5 – the raised crossing outside Westgate Academy.
Free one-hour parking slots are available throughout February at nearby car parks to support traders during the works.
