Black History Month in Lincoln
Black History Month starts at Lincoln Bishop University tomorrow with a series of events designed to educate, engage and entertain people of all ages.
“The theme for Black History Month UK 2025 is Standing Firm in Power and Pride and Lincoln Bishop University, cementing its commitment to social justice, is proud to again announce a full programme of events at the university to celebrate Black History Month,” said event organiser Sheine Peart, Associate Professor in Access, Equality and Inclusion.
The university has selected three significant figures to highlight important national and global contributions made by different Black people in the UK and beyond.
“This year were are commemorating Lilian Bader (pictured above) who was one of the first Black women to serve in the British armed forces; celebrating Lesego Chombo a trailblazing Botswanan leader, crowned Miss Botswana 2022 and Miss World Africa 2024 and at just 26, became Botswana’s youngest-ever cabinet minister and acclaiming the work of George Imafidon, a social impact leader who is creating access to pathways for young people into science and technology.”
Arts and crafts events for parents and children will be held both at the university and the Ermine Library and Community Hub with public lectures for older participants, generative art workshops and a screening of Mike Leigh’s critically acclaimed film Hard Truths.
Sheine added: In addition we will also be hosting Tinashe Chipawe from Zimbabwe as our artist in residence and every Tuesday you can try a different African/Caribbean main dish in our refectory.”
