The Imps leap–frogged the Bluebirds at the top of League One on Saturday with an away victory at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Second half goals from Rob Street and Dom Jefferies secured the win to make it 18 matches unbeaten in the league.

Street fired his side into the lead early in the second period, before substitute Jefferies added to the scoreline midway through it, as City were rewarded for an excellent all-round team performance in the battle of the league's top two sides.

Head coach Michael Skubala made one enforced change with Jack Moylan, who had left the field the previous week with a dead leg resulting in a place on the bench. Ryley Towler came into the starting XI as a result.

The opener came on 55 minutes when Street did well to let Tendayi Darikwa's ball through to find House. The captain then held off a Welsh defender and fed Street, who took a touch and calmly finished into the bottom corner.

The hosts did apply pressure, but the City players were able to withstand everything thrown at them and struck again on the counterattack in the 73rd minute. Substitute Jefferies won the ball in his own half. Street then took it before sending Jefferies through to score his second of the season as he cut in from the left and sent a low drive into the corner.

Around 3,000 Imps fans had made the journey to the Welsh capital to see the huge crowd of 27,280 silenced as City went two points ahead of its rivals in the race for top spot and automatic promotion.

Head coach Michael Skubala hailed the unity around the club: “Credit to the fans again. In the last 20 minutes, when we needed to dig in deep, all I could hear was our fans. They got us over the line again.

"It's an incredible amount of fans to travel all this way, and I’m glad we can send them back happy.

"The players and fans feel really connected, and it was an amazing moment at the end where the lads came over to celebrate."

Skubala said the players had given everything again in the performance and he was keen to build on this game when City head to Exeter on Tuesday night.

He said: "It's an amazing three points, but as I keep saying it's just three points so it's important we are ready to go and face Exeter next.

"The lads have given everything out there so we need to reassess and see how they are, and we may need to make changes.

"We didn't need Jack Moylan in the end so it's great that we've got players like him and Ryan Oné ready to come in."
