Could Imps become champions tonight?

Lincoln City could become EFL League One champions tonight if the team manages to collect one point away to Doncaster Rovers (7.45pm kick-off).

Head coach Michael Skubala is insisting that the focus is on extending the Imps’ unbeaten league run of 27 games and collecting three points, but the chance to clinch the title can’t be ignored.

"We have to keep focused; our job is to make sure that we do everything that we can to get the three points. Doncaster is a good team and has been in excellent form since the turn of the year,” said Skubala.

"They're right up there in the form table and we know that it will be a tough game, so we will have to be on it. We know that if we perform to our best that we can give anyone in this league a game."

Rovers head into this fixture occupying 14th place in Sky Bet League One with a points tally of 56 which guarantees their place in the division next season. Grant McCann’s side head into their clash with the Imps off the back of two straight wins having only lost two of their last nine matches.

When the two teams met at the LNER Stadium in November it was the Imps who came out narrowly on top. Loanee, Frankie Okoronkwo opened the scoring for City in the first period before Brandon Hanlan got the Rovers’ equaliser, but City’s response was immediate as just a minute later, Robbie Gotts’ attempted clearance ended in the back of his own net.

Midfielder Conor McGrandles added his thoughts: “It’s a big game, obviously it is not going to be easy for us and we’re going to have to be at it.

“It’s been great playing in most games, I think I’ve only missed one league game which is something I’m really proud of, being available for so many of the games but as I’ve said, it makes it easier when I’ve got this group of players around me.

“The fans have been incredible, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the fans probably don’t realise how much they do help us and I’m really grateful that the boys and myself have been able to pay them back for their efforts and support.”
