Driver’s punishment should deter speeding motorists - police
A man who drove through a busy street at more than twice the legal speed limit has been banned from the road and fined.
Royce Flower, of Kent Gardens in Bardney, reached 64mph in a 30mph zone when he got behind the wheel of his Jaguar XF in February this year.
The 54-year-old raced along Horncastle Road, West Ashby at the same time a child's christening was happening at a church on the street.
There were children and parents making their way to the event when he sped past.
Flower appeared at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Monday when he was banned from driving for 56 days and fined a total of £650.
He was brought to justice thanks to the work of the force’s Roads Policing Unit.
PC Daniel Thomas, who works in the team, said he hoped this result serves as a deterrent and warned drivers that speeding would not be tolerated in Lincolnshire.
He said: “This could have ended so differently – a young child could have been seriously injured or worse.
“When you get behind the wheel you take your life and those of other road users into your hands.
“And while it might sound obvious, speed limits are there for a reason – to keep everyone safe.
“Flower showed a complete disregard for the safety of others, and I hope he uses his ban to reflect and do better,
“We lose too many people on our roads and speed is often a huge contributing factor.”
