Get a taste of Doughnut Economics
Doughnut Economics is a concept that shows how everything we do is inter-related and challenges the current economic system of growth at all costs.
It’s a system that cities and regions around the world have started to embed into their policies and decision-making and back in 2023 LocalMotion and Climate Hope Lincoln introduced it to the city.
A series of follow up events will be held as Global Doughnut Days on October 14, 15, 16 and 17 at the Mint Lane Hub organised by Debbie Mace of Climate Hope Lincoln and will further explore what the system could mean for Lincoln.
“This year we’re revisiting and expanding on Lincoln’s Doughnut ambitions,” said Debbie.
The doughnut visually shows the relationships with the inner circle represents our social systems and the outer circle our climate.
Debbie explained:“It follows that healthy regenerative systems in one circle will naturally transfer to the other. However, the opposite is also true, which is what we are experiencing now with both social and climate injustice. The doughnut, therefore, reminds us that both of these important issues are interrelated, we can’t achieve one without the other”
The 2023 event featured Rob Shorter of the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) and tested Lincoln’s appetite for the system – it was attended by over 80 people and has been pursued by Climate Hope members.
Global Doughnut Days Lincoln 2025 will feature speakers and workshop leaders including: Kerry Gibson Project of Fashion Fixed CIC; Maureen O’ Callaghan of Beyond Money Education & Training CIC: Associate Professor Georgiana Els, Lincolnshire’s Inner Development Goals Ambassador and Hannah Dale of Wild Wrendale Rewilding
“Together we can explore Doughnut Economics (DE) following our 2023 DE event. Using an Earth Based Lens we can begin to vision what DE could mean for our place. Join us to co-create a regenerative vision for Lincoln. One that can be carried forward & built upon during this week & beyond GDD 2025. This is just our beginning,” added Debbie.
