MP visits pub hit by blaze
Lincoln MP Hamish Falconer witnessed the damaged caused by a fire at the Horse and Groom pub when he paid a visit to the stricken hostelry.
Six fire crews were called to the Carholme Road pub in August – no-one was hurt in the fire, but every room in the building suffered extensive damage.
Hamish said: “It was heartbreaking to see the damage caused by the fire at the Horse and Groom. This pub has been a favourite of mine for a long while, and I know how much it means to the community.
“I was grateful to visit and hear from the team about their determination to rebuild and reopen in 2026. I’ll be doing all I can to support them in that effort, and I look forward to the day the Horse and Groom welcomes people back through its doors.’
Commercial director for pub owners, The Ever So Sensible Group, James Cann added: “The fire was a devastating blow, coming so soon after we had won Pub of the Year at the Horse and Groom, but we are determined to bring it back stronger.
“It was great to have our local MP, Hamish Falconer, visit and show his support, and we’re already working hard with local tradespeople – such as McGann’s Electrical, who this week installed us a temporary consumer unit.
“We can now begin the challenging work of restoration and development. Our priority is to support Lisa, and her team throughout the rebuild, ensuring that when the doors reopen in 2026, the pub will be in the best possible shape to serve the community for many years to come.”
