Police crack down on drug crime and illegal e-bikes across Lincoln

Illegal e-bikes, youth anti-social behaviour and drug-related crime are among the key issues being tackled by police in Lincoln this winter.

The focus forms part of the latest Lincoln Neighbourhood Policing quarterly update which sets out how officers are responding to concerns raised by local residents.

Inspector Jon Birkin, who leads the Lincoln City and South Neighbourhood Policing Team, and Inspector Dan Gilmore, who oversees Lincoln North, said their teams are working hard to improve safety and reassurance across the city.

Inspector Gilmore said: “You told us that illegal e-bikes contribute to anti-social behaviour in all areas of Lincoln. In response, our teams continue to educate riders on what makes an e-bike legal, seize illegal ones, and report offenders for traffic offences.

“We rely on information from the public to help us act swiftly. If you know who is riding illegal e-bikes or where they’re being stored, please get in touch or report anonymously via Crimestoppers.”

Police are also prioritising drug dealing, drug-related ASB, and youth crime in hotspot areas including Park, Abbey, Carholme and the city centre.

As part of Operation Fortify, officers have carried out targeted visits to address “cuckooing” – where drug dealers take over the homes of vulnerable people – resulting in several arrests. Teams have also worked closely with the City of Lincoln Council’s Public Protection and ASB Team to issue warning notices and reduce offending.

The current policing priorities, which run from October to December, have been shaped by feedback from the public as well as police intelligence on local trends and emerging issues.

Residents are encouraged to share their views and help shape future priorities by completing the Neighbourhood Policing Survey on the Lincolnshire Police website.

Inspector Birkin added: “Your information makes a real difference. Together, we can keep Lincoln safe, vibrant, and welcoming for everyone.”
