Residents can return to their homes

Residents of flats at One The Brayford, Lincoln can now return home.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue have officially lifted the prohibition notice on the Brayford Wharf Nort building after additional safety measures were installed.

A prohibition notice was issued over the whole residential area of the building following fire safety concerns on April 25 this year with residents advised to find alternative accommodation.

Hazards included a lack of fire detection and warning of a blaze, which could leave residents overcome by heat or smoke before they could escape. Occupants were told it was too risky to remain in the event of a fire, but not all chose to leave. Those that did were initially house under emergency provisions by City of Lincoln Council at an estimated cost of £80,000.

Now, the people responsible for One The Brayford have met the minimum requirements as outlined by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue’s prohibition notice, allowing the notice to be withdrawn and residents to return.

At the time of the notice RMG (Residental Management Group) was responsible for the running of the prestige development of 89 apartments.

Dan Moss, head of prevention and protection at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “Our teams have been in close collaboration with the responsible persons for the building over the last few months, ensuring that the proper control measures have been implemented and remaining safety works to address deficiencies are scheduled to take place.

“With these measures and reassurances in place, we have been able to issue a withdrawal letter lifting the prohibition notice and have notified the residents’ association that flat owners can return to the property.

“I appreciate that this period has been disruptive for residents, but once we understood the extent of the fire risks at One The Brayford, action needed to be taken.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we worked behind the scenes with the responsible persons to reduce the risks associated with the building, and I’m glad that residents can now return home to normality.”
