Scam alert
A scam email claiming to be from the People's Postcode Lottery offering a free scratch card advent calendar is doing the rounds.
The email is a way of getting people’s payment details and money, but this is not a genuine offer and it's not from the People's Postcode Lottery.
Police urge everyone to check the details on such emails – on this example the sender address is suspicious, and there are tell-tale signs in the urgency it cites to get people to respond, such as ‘today only’ and ‘act now’.
“Please be wary of emails like this that offer large cash prizes. They often use brand names to try to add authenticity and rely on some people being signed up to the official service and assuming it's therefore legitimate,” said a police spokesperson.
“If you are not sure, stop, think fraud! - especially when you are asked to make a payment or give your details.”
