Wigan Athletic 0, Lincoln City 1
A moment of magic from Jack Moylan secured three important away points at Wigan Athletic, as City made it 12 games unbeaten in Sky Bet League One.
Michael Skubala's side successfully nullified the hosts and claimed a sixth away league victory of the season at the Brick Community Stadium.
The Imps named an unchanged side for the third game in a row, with Ryan Oné, who joined the Imps on loan from Sheffield United in midweek named on the substitutes' bench.
Moylan’s brilliance came in the 24th minute when he received a pass from Conor McGrandles and danced his way past Will Aimson before dinking the ball over Sam Tickle and into the net, despite the best efforts of the retreating Jensen Weir.
The home side had its share of chances and City had to weather the pressure including a crucial intervention from Adam Reach to deny Moxon after Asamoah Jr surged down the right flank to pick out the midfielder inside the area. However, his goal-bound effort was hooked off the line by a retreating Reach.
City were resolute in defence and equal to the Latics’ efforts to level the score.
Skubala hailed his side’s work ethic: “It’s about digging out performances and I thought it was a tough game. Every match in this division is so tough and the lads had to dig deep today to get the three points. Credit to them, we got them and we move on.
“We start fast, are aggressive and want to score goals. Jack took his goal brilliantly well, with a great finish.
“At that point we were on top, had the territory and moved the ball well. Then we started to make passes that weren’t quite us and they started to have some territory. You know after half-time they’re going to risk things and make changes, and we had a 20-minute spell where we really had to dig deep and defend well.
“I can’t really remember a lot other than Reachy (Adam Reach) clearing off the line, which was a massive moment, but you have to come to these places and be strong in those moments.
“For the last 10-15 minutes we had good structure and could have got another one at the end. These games are tough, I’m proud of the lads for getting the points. They work so hard for each other.”
Attendance: 9,436 (892 away).
