Chance for Imps to bounce back

Chance for Imps to bounce back

The Imps can return to winning ways at the LNER Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) when they host Stockport County (3pm KO).

“It’s a great way to bounce back if you get the results. Teams like Stockport will be different to teams like Crawley, which is the challenge of this league as every team’s different. We can’t dwell on Tuesday night, we need to look forward to the next game, and it’ll be a tough game, they’re going really well. We’ve got to plan for it and hopefully put a performance in.

“They’ve got some really good attacking threats and some really fast players. They’ve started the season well, and they’ll be pleased with where they are. We’re at home and we’ve got to take the game to them in a way that we can attack the goal more.

“All our strikers offer something different and it’s trying to find the right blend. We’re in a situation where we need all of them and I’m more than happy with their contribution and their overall game.”

Skubala said Tuesday night’s defeat at Crawley was a ‘tough result to take’ aftert the Imps were undone by three second-half strikes.

"We're really disappointed with the second half particularly. In the first half we had control and looked good without having a real threat in the box.

"Early in the second-half, we've fallen asleep on a moment and then we were chasing but without any real structure, and were caught again twice on the transition.

"It was a really disappointing night because we have to be better with the ball when we have teams locked in, to create chances. We didn't cleanly open them up. Overall, it wasn't good enough really."

"It's the first away defeat since January so in the context of the bigger picture it's a bad day at the office for sure. We've got to get better. We must keep moving and keep improving."

The head coach was much happier with his side’s performance in the team’s other defeat last Saturday against Birmingham City when  praised his players’ desire and endeavour.

“We knew it would be a tough game, so we set up to catch them in possession. We pressed them, we caught them really well at times and set up to be aggressive.

“We’re always pushing, if you lose a game you don’t want to lose it 2-1 or 1-0, if you get caught you get caught. The desire and effort of this team I never question.

“I’ve not watched many teams cause them the problems we did, so we can take belief from that. There’s no doubt though that they are a strong outfit, everyone knows what they’re doing this season, so I’m just proud of the performance.”
