Financial support for childminders
New childminders are being urged to apply for government start-up grants as the deadline for registration approaches.
The one-off payment provides support to new childminders towards the cost of setting up, but to benefit, all Ofsted or Childminder Agency (CMA) registrations should be finalised by March 31 2025.
Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, Executive Member for Children’s Services, said: “Working in childcare is an opportunity to make a real difference, and it can be very rewarding to see the children grow and develop.
“If you’re starting your career in childcare, these government grants can help cover your initial costs. However, this support is coming to an end, so make sure you apply before the deadline.”
New childminders must apply for the government grant within two months of confirmation of their childminder registration date. In some cases, they may still be eligible if their registration is delayed beyond the March 31 deadline, as long as they have submitted it by January 3 2025.
