Sincil Bank area rejuvenation works underway
THE £3m improvement works to Lincoln’s Sincil Bank area started on Monday (September 2) and are scheduled to last six months.
As part of the project, the following changes will be made to the area:
- Provision of a new green corridor for cyclists and pedestrians along Sincil Bank, between the entrance to Lincoln City Football Club’s LNER Stadium and Kesteven Street. This will include the provision of a northbound cycleway; planted areas; and the resurfacing of several sections footway and carriageway along Sincil Bank.
- Implementation of a revised one-way system within the Sincil Bank area. This is in conjunction with the previously implemented residents’ parking scheme.
- A number of aesthetic changes, in the form of gateway features, incorporated into the project at a number of key junctions within the Sincil Bank area (these will be carried out away from the carriageway with minimal traffic management).
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “Works are now officially underway for our improvements to Sincil Bank.
“The team will be working at Sincil Bank until early 2025 to make the area a nicer place to live for residents and a more welcoming place for visitors.
“Not only will we be working to reduce rat-running through the neighbourhood by revising the one-way system, but we’re also building a new northbound cycleway between LNER Stadium and Kesteven Street so people on foot and cycle have a safer route.
“By tackling issues around Sincil Bank’s poor accessibility and high levels of traffic, we hope to improve residents’ quality of life and the area’s air quality. Doing this will also help Lincoln continue to grow as a thriving place to live and work.
“As with any major road improvements, there will be some disruption during the project due to the phased road closures that will be in place along Sincil Bank. But I want to assure everyone that access will be maintained for residents and businesses throughout the works.
“We’ll also be working closely with Lincoln City Football Club to keep them updated on our traffic management so they can update their fans ahead of any affected matches.”
City of Lincoln Council Leader, Councillor Naomi Tweddle, added: “We’re pleased that works are now underway in the Sincil Bank area to improve the urban realm.
“The Be Lincoln Town Deal aims to foster collaboration, helping our city become a top destination for both residents and visitors, and the Sincil Bank project is a prime example.
"Our efforts to enhance the Sincil Bank area with greenery and gateway features will support the county council's initiatives to address local traffic issues and we’re very excited to see work begin on such an important project within Lincoln.”
“We are excited to partner with Lincolnshire County Council to implement a project that will significantly benefit this part of our city."
