Chrysanthemum king to defend his title
Success bloomed for avid horticulturist Mal Reynolds when he decided to enter some his chrysanthemums into a national competition – he won at the first attempt.
“I have been growing exhibition chrysanthemums for some time but three years ago I started to grow exhibition large single flowers. I entered the National Chrysanthemum Society’s Championships last year and was surprised to win the championship class with five vases of five flowers.”
This year’s championships will be held over November 1-2 in Stafford.
“I am presently looking to retain my title. It gives me great satisfaction to take cuttings early in the year and produce a polytunnel full of these wonderful flowers – it’s a picture.”
Mal is also chairman of the North Lincoln Horticultural Society, which recently held its well attended annual show at the Grandstand Community Centre where they were benches full of produce (pictured below) judged Cllr Rebecca Longbottom of Castle Ward and prizes were presented by the Mayor of Lincoln Cllr Alan Briggs.
The society welcomes all gardeners and allotment holders and has a fully stocked horticultural store on Clarence A Allotments off Burton Road - LN1 3JP, https://www.northlincolnhorticulturalsociety.co.uk/
