Magical moths this half-term
Join Rooted Arts for free fun workshops and a performance through the streets of Moorland and Ermine this half-term.
Families can get involved in free activities in Ermine East from Tuesday and Wednesday, October 22-23 and Moorland on Wednesday and Thursday, October 23-24.
Lincoln-based artist Ruth Piggott will be helping all youngsters over seven years of age to decorate their own beautiful light-up moth puppet (pictured below) next Tuesday at Ermine Library and Wednesday at Moorland Community Centre, during a two-hour workshop.
The new puppets will be then introduced to Disco Moth Electricians Ray and Flash (above) on Wednesday in Ermine East and Thursday in Moorland to present Moths At Work Moon.
This is a fun and mobile physical Street Theatre interaction event with illuminated costumes, from acclaimed visual and physical theatre company, Pif-Paf.
Communities can also find a moth template on the back of the event flyer (found in local venues) to create their own moth at home to take part in the action.
Chelsey Everatt, Director of Rooted Arts said: “These activities launch our On Your Doorstep programme, where communities will make decisions about arts activity in their own neighbourhoods.
“We are really looking forward to getting out and about with the Moths on the streets of Ermine and Moorland to find out what people think should be happening locally. The workshops will also be a real treat for both creative children and adults, so don’t miss out!”
The events follow a £30,000 investment from Arts Council England, which will also see Moorland residents invited to join a new Community Creativity Panel to decide about a project which will happen over Winter 2024/25. Members will not need any experience, just a willingness to share their ideas.
Chelsey added: “Rooted Arts CIC, a Lincoln based community arts social enterprise, which celebrates creativity and growth from the ground up. Activity focuses on cultivating mental wellness and championing environmental sustainability through art, promoting vibrant creativity deeply rooted in local communities, leading to contented hearts and a thriving earth.
“The organisation connects communities to each other and nature, imagining a greener future together. They have three key strands of activity: On Your Doorstep, Everyday Creativity and Creative Nature.”
