Movember ‘rowathon’
Members of the University of Lincoln Rowing Club will be taking part in 24-hour marathon in support for Movember and men’s health.
The first of three fundraising events takes place at Lincoln Rowing Centre from 6pm on Friday, November 15 through to Saturday at 6pm when members(pictured) will put their backs, arms and legs into a 24-hour ‘rowathon’ to raise money for Movember, which this year will be tackling prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide
“Roughly 12 men die a day in the UK, one every two hours. Men also make up 76% of death by suicide. ULRC are taking part in the 24-hour row in solidarity of those men, as a collective group to remind people that they are not alone,” said club vice-president Jack Mooney.
Later in the month the club will also be staging a 12.5 km hike in honour of the 12.5% of men that are diagnosed with a mental health disorder and an inter-club five-aside football tournament.
Jack added: “Our aim is to show everyone that they are not alone, not only are we a united club, but everyone is united in this battle against mental health problems. Last year we completed around 360 km in 24-hours - I want us to push above 400 km as a group in support of men across the UK.”
With over 70 members eager to join in and take part the club is hoping to raise a significant amount of money for a good cause.
