From Lincoln to the big screen
University of Lincoln is offering aspiring movie-makers a unique opportunity to study cinematography in a fully-funded short course with the British Film Institute (BFI).
The partnership aims to give students a core understanding of the art of storytelling with a camera by providing masterclasses and technical workshops taught by established industry professionals.
Jack Shelbourn, Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for BA Film Production, and BFI Short Course in Cinematography at the University of Lincoln said: “I am thrilled that we will be welcoming 16-19-year-olds from across the UK for a week in Lincoln, where they will be immersed in the art and craft of cinematography.
“We have some fantastic guests lined up and I am confident that the students will leave the course ready to explore the film and TV industry further and make their mark.
“This opportunity is also a strong endorsement of what we offer at the University of Lincoln. We are proud to be the only BFI Academy Specialist course that provides focused teaching on the art, craft, and various roles within cinematography.
“This clearly indicates that Lincoln is THE place to learn about cinematography in the UK, whether through our BA, MA, or our new course in collaboration with the BFI.”
The week-long course provides hands-on experience in filming professional actors; insights from guest speakers and a chance to operate the latest industry-standard equipment and facilities.
Budding cinematographers will also have the chance to learn about the environmental impacts of the film industry and gain experience of how to consider sustainability in the practice.
