
Parklife: history talk on city’s green spaces.
Lincoln’s parks have been popular in the recent warm weather but have do their visitors every wonder about their history?
In Parklife: Lincoln Arboretum, Boultham Park and Temple Gardens, Dr Andrew Walker will explore the varied histories of these three green spaces in the city.
Hosted by the Society for Lincolnshire History & Archaeology, the event will be held at Lincoln Central Library on Free School Lane (LN1 1EZ) on Thursday, July 31, at 2pm.
Andrew Walker, a regular contributor to Hello Lincoln’s Heritage section, will examine how and why the parks were developed and look at their changing use over time.
He’ll mention a painted lion, Greek gods, colourful processions and mass gatherings, brass bands, balloons, fireworks, sugar beet, and 50 fearsome fairies along the way.
