Rare opening for Ellis Mill
Visitors will have a rare opportunity to step inside Lincoln’s Ellis Mill during the Festival of History next month.
The doors of the mill will be open on Monday, May 5 between 11am to 2pm offering a chance to tour the ground floor of this iconic building.
Steve Dunk, visitor experience manager at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “The Festival of History is a brilliant city-wide celebration where Lincoln’s rich past comes to life and I’m delighted visitors will be able to explore a fascinating, lesser-known part of this past at Ellis Mill.
“Dating back to 1798, the mill is the last of nine that once stood on the Lincoln hilltop and on this special day we’ll be opening the ground floor so people can find out more about the mill.”
Ellis Mill is on the aptly named Mill Road, just behind the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, which also has an action-packed programme of Victorian Adventures to look forward to over the festival weekend.
On May 3-4 travel back in time to meet a curious cast of historical figures including Mystic Maxine, the psychic, Mrs Cheshire, the Victorian pharmacist, and many more, soundtracked by live music from a traditional Victorian harmonium musician.
Dare you join Mr Liberty, the School Master? He’ll be delivering Victorian lessons in the school room on Monday, May 5. Once class is dismissed, unleash your creativity and get stuck into Victorian themed craft activities. Don’t forget to join the family fun trail also available at the museum.
