Table made from ancient oak moves on from cathedral

There are just a few weeks left to see the 13m long table made from an ancient, fossilised oak that has been on display in Lincoln Cathedral for the past year.

Created from a section of the nation’s most significant tree, a gigantic 5000-year-old Fenland Black Oak, the masterpiece of craftsmanship is known as The Table for the Nation.

The Jubilee Oak is thought to have been more than 55 metres tall before falling into a peat bog in Norfolk for 5,000 years. The table’s residency has been part of ‘Our World; God’s Creation’ – Lincoln Cathedral’s year-long celebration of sustainability, communities and the environment.

It has played host to communal activities throughout the year, but will be moved out of the cathedral after the Lincoln Festival of History over the early May Bank Holiday
