March to Reclaim the Night
Lincoln Students’ Union is inviting people to join its members marching through the city to highlight that everyone should have the right to feel safe on the streets, day or night.
The march will take place on Thursday, November 14 students, staff, and the wider Lincoln community can unite to inspire positive change.
Reclaim the Night dates back to the 1970s, born as a global response to the urgent issues of sexual harassment and violence against women. The movement organises marches and rallies worldwide, raising awareness about sexual assault and advocating for the safety of women and marginalized communities in public spaces, especially after dark.
Amelia Hinton, your Student Support and Development Officer said: "We believe it is everyone’s right to feel safe, and that right must be defended with unwavering commitment.
“Change doesn't happen overnight, but together, through our collective voices and actions, we can build a community where safety is no longer a privilege but a reality for all. I’ve attended Reclaim the Night each year throughout my time at university, and now, I am honoured to lead this year’s march. Over the years, I’ve seen the numbers grow, reflecting our community’s strong demand for safety at night.
This march is also part of the broader White Ribbon Campaign, encouraging individuals to wear white ribbons as a pledge to never commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women. White ribbons will be available on the night for those who wish to show their support.
Meet at 5:30 pm outside the Students' Union.
