Can experience count against The Posh?

Transfer window activity telegraphed Lincoln City’s intent to bolster is young side with experienced players, especially in front of goal.

The presence of new signings James Collins, and Sam Clucas, both 34, could be crucial as the Imps host Peterborough United at the LNER Stadium this Saturday (kick-off 3pm), which has one of League One’s leakiest defences.

Peterborough are eight points and seven places behind City, who seem rooted to that 12th spot, with the same number of games played and have let in 47 goals, the most of any team in the third tier. Can the Imps’ bolstered strike force keep the floodgates open?

Both teams want to use last weekend’s results to build on – Lincoln to reignite play-off hopes after the victory against Northampton Town and Peterborough to increase the distance between them and the bottom four after securing a draw against Exeter City.

The Imps will be aware The Posh has reinforced its defence with loanee signings and its players are more than capable of scoring goals with 42 netted in the league this season.

Securing a back-to-back wins for the first time since October will signal a tidal turn for City, but Darren Ferguson’s men will be aiming to make the most of the short trip north.
