Coop deliveries hit by cyber attack

Supplies to Lincolnshire Co-op stores have been hit by a cyber-attack.

The national Co-op Group is currently facing cyber security issues, including membership data channels, but the Lincolnshire firm has issued a statement reassuring customers about its own systems.

“We are an independent co-op and our membership systems are separate to the Co-op Group systems so this has not impacted our member data.

“We work closely with the Co-op Group, including as part of a buying group, and we are in close communications about how the cyber incident impacts us going forward.

“Due to the sustained malicious attempts by hackers to access to Co-op Group systems, the Group has taken proactive steps to keep the systems safe, which is temporarily impacting how many deliveries we are getting into our stores.

“We’re really sorry if this means our members and customers might not be able to buy some of their usual products from us. We are working closely with Co-op Group to reduce disruption and resume deliveries.”

A group calling itself Dragon Force claims to have hacked into the Co-op Group’s system accessing data such as members’ personal data, such as names and contact details, but that does not include passwords or bank details.

The group is also responsible for hacking the IT systems of Marks and Spencer and Harrods in attempts to extort money from the companies.
