Four months of roadworks on Carholme Road

Four months of roadworks on Carholme Road

Works to improve surfacing, drainage, kerbs and footways on Carholme Road, Lincoln started on Monday.

Cllr Michael Cheyne, executive member for highways, at Lincolnshire County Council explained: “Our contractor has officially broken ground on the council’s four-month improvement project at Carholme Road in Lincoln.

“The team will now be on-site until late autumn, between Nelson Street and just past the golf club, to improve the area’s infrastructure for everyone that uses it.

“As part of the project, we will be digging up the existing road surface and laying new; improving the county council-maintained highways drainage; and repairing critical sections of damaged kerbs and footways.

“Doing this work now will stop this infrastructure getting any worse and will mean less disruption for Lincoln in the future.”

Below is an overview the traffic management planned for throughout the project:

  • The works will be carried out in phases:
  • Phase 1: just past Nelson Street to just past Charlesworth Street
  • Phase 2:  just past Charlesworth Street to just past Roman Wharf
  • Phase 3: just past Roman Wharf to just past Severn Street
  • Phase 4: just past Severn Street to just past the golf club
  • Narrowed lanes and temporary traffic signals will be in place on weekdays
  • Night-time road closures from 7pm to 6am, weekday evenings (supplemented by weekend working if required, with residents notified accordingly)
  • Diversion route via Carholme Road to the roundabout / A46 eastbound / Riseholme Roundabout / B1126 Riseholme Road / Yarborough Crescent / Yarborough Road / The Avenue, and vice versa
  • Advance road closure warning signs will be posted on-site two weeks prior to the start of any of road closures.

Cllr Cheyne added: “Now that these important works are underway, people should expect some disruption over the next four months when travelling in and out of Lincoln via Carholme Road. This is unavoidable when carrying out works of this scale, so we kindly ask everyone to bear with us as it will all be well worth it in the end.

“In the meantime, we encourage everyone to leave extra time for their journeys and to treat our workforce with respect.”
