Illegal e-bikes seized

Two illegal electric bikes have been seized by police to prevent them being ridden dangerously on local streets.

A black Talaria electric motocross type bike (below) was seen being ridden illegally on Scothern Lane, Nettleham on Sunday.  The rider, a 21-year-old man, was followed to his home address in the village and reported for riding without a driving licence and no insurance - his bike has been seized.

A blue and black illegal electric bike (above) was seized from a 33-year-old man seen riding it in a supermarket car park off Nettleham Road, Lincoln on Tuesday.  He was reported for riding without a driving licence and no insurance and his bike was confiscated.

“Neither rider had a helmet on which is a really terrible idea considering the speed these bikes will travel at.  We'll be submitting an application for the bikes to be forfeited at court,” said Roads Policing Inspector, Jason Baxter.

“We’re looking to our communities to work with us to prevent the anti-social behaviour that is being experienced within our county.

"These irresponsible riders are family members and friends; people will know who they are.

“If somebody you know or love is riding one of these bikes illegally in an anti-social or dangerous manner, I’d urge you to speak with them about the consequences of their actions and the danger they’re putting themselves and others in, as well as the potential penalties they face such as fines, penalty points and losing the bike should we seize it.

“We’re asking people to share any information with us that will identify people responsible for riding illegal bikes on our roads and public spaces causing a danger to those around them and themselves.

“Please call our control room on 101 or 999 if a rider is causing an immediate danger to the public or report online if there is no longer any imminent danger.”
