Imps make long trip to Exeter
The Imps will be back in league action this Saturday (November 16) when they make 500-mile round trip to Exeter City after an impressive midweek win.
Tendayi Darikwa captained the Imps for the first time in their 5-0 win over Manchester City U21s to book a place in the knockout stages of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
Freddie Draper and Bailey Cadamarteri were on the scoresheet in the first-half before Rob Street and JJ McKiernan opened their Imps accounts, as did 17-year-old Zane Okoro on his full professional debut.
Head coach Michael Skubala said: "I thought the lads were magnificent. From start to finish we had complete control of the game and it was a really good professional performance. We said before we came into it that it was a bit of a jigsaw puzzle in terms of working out our team and tactics with what we had to do, but it was a good night.
"We were really on point and are growing all the time. It's not always about how well we play, but how we manage games. There have been times when we can manage games better but I felt on the night we really managed what is a very good possession-based opposition, who have beaten other teams, but we were really good with the ball in and out of possession."
Skubala will be hoping for more of the same from his players at St James’ Park in this weekend’s League One fixture, but the Grecians will aim to halt the Imps’ current form of four wins out of five.
They are on a run of three wins in the league and, in the early season bunching, are 11th in the league compared to Lincoln’s fifth position, but are just three points behind, winning as many matches.
Exeter boss Gary Caldwell said: "This will be another tough game; Lincoln are a fantastic side who are very well organised and they know to win games.
"They have a clear identity and the manager has done a fantastic job and I think from January to now they've probably picked up the most points, at least in the top three. We have to be prepared and we are clear on what we need to do.”
The lunch-time clash between the two Roman cities will be televised – kick-off 12.30pm.
