Lincoln City 5, Peterborough United 1
Michael Skubala was pleased with his player’s performance of his players after Saturday's 5-1 victory against Peterborough United.
City made it back-to-back wins at the LNER Stadium with goals from Dom Jefferies, Tom Bayliss, Freddie Draper, Ethan Hamilton and James Collins.
Skubala said: “It was a great performance, especially without the ball. We really went after them and I thought we dominated them from start to finish.
“Tom Bayliss was great. We know his quality, what he’s got on the ball and we saw from his free-kick what he can bring to this squad.”
City’s head coach reiterated the need to keep pushing and build momentum with a short turnaround to the Blackpool game at the LNER Stadium on Tuesday evening.
He added: “The team has been working so hard. This group has got great character and I think we saw that with how we dominated them. We have to keep pushing and improving - if we play like that every week we’ll be in a good spot.
“Trying to build momentum in this league is important. If you can get another win and get on a run it moves you up the table. It’s another three points but it’ll be a completely different game on Tuesday.”
Tom Bayliss’ free kick was one of the highlights of a great match for City which was the midfielder’s (pictured below) first goal for the club.
He said: “With the three points against Northampton we needed to just get over the line to re-instill that we were doing alright, and then we just blew Peterborough away. Let’s build on this now and hopefully it can go into Blackpool and Wigan.”
Bayliss found the top corner from outside the box after 33 minutes to double the Imps' lead. He said: “It’s always nice. I’ve scored one of them in my career before, but I think that one was a bit better. It was very nice to see it go in, especially as my first goal for Lincoln.
"We can score from our set-pieces. It’s a big part of our game. We work hard so it was nice to see it come off.”
The Imps take on Blackpool at home tomorrow night with a 7.45pm kick-off.
