Lincolnshire to introduce weekly food waste collections
Food waste collections are set to begin across Lincolnshire from March 2026.
The new service is part of ongoing efforts to reduce the county’s environmental impact and increase recycling rates. Households in selected areas will receive two food waste caddies – a 5-litre indoor container and a 23-litre outdoor version – both featuring lockable lids designed to keep out wildlife and minimise mess.
The collections will take place weekly, using dedicated vehicles. The waste will be repurposed rather than sent to landfill.
Materials accepted in the caddies will include:
- Uneaten food and plate scrapings
- Meat and fish (raw or cooked), including bones
- Dairy products
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
- Rice, pasta and beans
- Bread, pastries and cakes
- Fruit and vegetables (raw or cooked), including peelings
Not all of these items are suitable for home composting, so residents are encouraged to use the provided caddies even if they compost at home.
While not every part of Lincolnshire will see collections begin in March, rollout plans will be confirmed closer to the launch.
Residents can find out more and see the new caddies in person at the Lincolnshire Show on 18 and 19 June.
The food waste initiative supports wider goals under the Environment Act 2021 and Lincolnshire’s ongoing waste reduction strategy.
