Major roadworks planned for Carholme Road in Lincoln
Work on a full rebuild of Carholme Road in Lincoln will begin on June 30th, as part of a major four-month improvement scheme.
Lincolnshire County Council’s highways team will completely reconstruct the carriageway, alongside crucial repairs to damaged kerbs, footways, and drainage infrastructure.
Cllr Michael Cheyne, executive member for highways, said: “Following improvements to Newland and part of Carholme Road last year, we’re returning to the west end of the city to complete the work.”
As one of Lincoln’s busiest roads, the project will be managed carefully to minimise disruption, with narrowed lanes and temporary traffic signals in place during the day. However, night-time road closures will be required as the work progresses.
Additional repairs will be made to key junctions, including 80 metres of the Carholme Road approach and 100 metres of the A46 westbound approach to Carholme Roundabout.
Cllr Neil Murray, county councillor for Carholme, welcomed the project, saying: “The carriageway here is falling apart, so I think people will be glad to see it getting some much-needed TLC. While there will be disruption, this work is vital and will be worth it in the end.”
Narrowed lanes and temporary signals will be in place on weekdays and night-time road closures will take place from 7pm to 6am.
Lincolnshire County Council said pedestrian access will be maintained, and a public liaison officer will be available on-site to provide updates.
