Man with axe near school

Firearms officers attended Carrington Drive, Lincoln, on yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon following a call reporting that a man was carrying an axe.

Police attended within minutes of the call, which was received at 3.06pm. Following a search of a nearby house, a man was arrested on suspicion of affray. He is currently in custody.

Hartsholme Academy primary school on Carrington Drive was advised not to let its pupils or staff leave during the incident, to protect their safety. Officers were in regular contact with the school and pupils were allowed to leave once the situation had been contained.

The incident is not believed to have any link to the school.
