MP takes Trailblazer chief on tour of Birchwood

The £20m ear-marked for the Birchwood area of Lincoln should create lasting for the local community according to the city’s MP.

Birchwood West is one of 25 places around the country that will receive £20m over 10 years through the government’s Trailblazer Neighbourhoods programme

Hamish Falconer was speaking after he hosted a visit to the estate for Baroness Hilary Armstrong (picture above centre in green jacket), chair of the Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods (ICON), along with councillors, council officials and stakeholders.

ICON is currently reviewing the current state of neighbourhoods across England and the long-term investment is aimed at tackling entrenched disadvantages and supporting stronger public services.

The walking tour took in the estate’s shopping area, police station, Jasmin Green, where City of Lincoln Council has plans for 50 energy efficient homes, and community space Diamond Park.

Residents and community organisations had a chance to have their say along the route.

“I really enjoyed leading local councillors, community leaders, residents, and Baroness Hilary Armstrong around Birchwood,” said Hamish.

It was great to hear directly from people about their aspirations for the area and how this Government investment can make a real difference. Birchwood has huge potential, and I’m determined to work with the community to ensure this funding delivers lasting change and opportunities for everyone.”
