New faces win Grand Prix races
The Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix may be the UK’s oldest road race, but it served up two new stars of cycling on Sunday.
The sun shone down on the world’s best riders as the Grand Prix offered up first the women’s event and then the open race and both had their fair share of drama.
Lauren Dickson (Handsling Alba Development RT) – the 25-year-old Scot widely tipped as a breakthrough rider – sprinted clear of world individual-pursuit champion Anna Morris to claim her first National Road Series triumph in Lincoln’s Castle Square.
James McKay (Wheelbase CabTech Castelli) turned Lincoln’s cobbles into a launchpad, detonating a last-lap attack on Michaelgate and edging Alex Peters (DAS Richardsons) in a tense finale to seal the biggest victory of his career.
