North Hykeham overnight diversion for new crossing

North Hykeham overnight diversion for new crossing

Overnight roadworks to replace the busy toucan crossing on Newark Road, North Hykeham will begin in May.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways at Lincolnshire County Council said current crossing is coming to the end of its operational life and needs replacing.

“ We’re taking this opportunity to upgrade the crossing with more environmentally friendly technology.

“The new equipment will be extra-low voltage which will reduce the crossing’s power consumption and carbon footprint.”

The works will be carried out on Newark Road near to the roundabout with Hathersage Avenue and start on Monday, May 19 with a planned end date of Monday, June 9. Work times onsite will be from 8pm to 6am subject to suitable weather. No weekend works are planned.

A signed diversion route will use like-for-like roads along  Moor Lane / Lincoln Road / Hykeham Road and vice versa.

“It’s a busy road, so we’ve decided to carry out these works overnight under a road closure and lift this at the end of each shift to help keep the disruption to a minimum.

“I do appreciate though, that there will still be some disruption, so I’d like to thank everyone effected for their patience while we get these improvements in place.”
