Red Arrows highlight of royal VE Day celebrations

RAF Waddington’s Red Arrows were part of the VE Day 80 Flypast over Buckingham Palace on Monday.

The picture above was taken by AS1 Amelia Turnbull from the base in prime position above the action in a Juno helicopter as the aerobatic display team was joined by other RAF aircraft from Coningsby, RAF Marham and RAF Lossiemouth.

The aircraft were led by the Lancaster from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and also included Lightnings and Typhoons.

In the run up to Monday’s celebrations the aircraft has used RAF Cranwell’s iconic College Hall as a stand-in for Buckingham Palace to practice the flypast.
