Council remains committed to Scampton site
West Lindsey District Council has reaffirmed its commitment to the long-term investment in Scampton, despite the Home Office confirming plans to put the site on the open market.
Dame Angela Eagle MP, Minister for Border Security and Asylum, informed the Council of the decision in a letter received on Wednesday. The letter states that while the government will seek external buyers, it remains open to working with the Council on its vision for the site.
“In parallel to this decision, the Home Office is committed to continuing work with West Lindsey District Council to progress their interest in the site,” the letter reads.
The announcement followed a meeting between the Council and the Home Office on 26 February.
Sally Grindrod-Smith, Director of Planning and Regeneration at West Lindsey District Council, emphasised that the Council has a clear strategy for securing long-term investment, developed through a thorough market testing process.
“Given the well-documented constraints such as contamination, heritage concerns, planning, and infrastructure challenges, a public-private partnership is the only realistic way forward,” she said.
She confirmed that the Council’s preferred development partner, Scampton Holdings Ltd, remains committed to the project and is ready to move forward.
The future of RAF Scampton, a site rich in aviation heritage, has been the subject of debate in recent years. West Lindsey District Council has long advocated for a regeneration plan that balances economic development with the preservation of its historical significance.
