Woman jailed after beating dog
When punters at a Lincoln pub spotted a woman beating her dog they tried to intervene.
But the 57-year-old woman turned on the would-be rescuers of the animal and assaulted them at the Dog and Bone pub on John Street last November.
Ketija Bilinksa, of Cannon Street in Lincoln, was jailed when she appeared before city magistrates last week for causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and assault by beating.
Bilinska received 10 weeks for the assault and eight weeks for animal cruelty – she had a previous suspended 26-week prison stretch for assault for dating back to March 2024 which now comes into force so her total sentence is 44 weeks.
Bilinska was also given a lifetime disqualification order under Section 34 of the Animal Welfare Act and has been banned from owning, keeping or controlling an animal.
Her Chinese crested dog (pictured) was also subject to a deprivation order and will be rehomed and Bilinska has also been ordered to pay compensation of £100 to the victims.
Lincolnshire Police’s dog legislation officer DC Gemma Oxby said: “This case is a demonstration of how members of our community will not tolerate cruelty to animals, when they sought to intervene in an aggressive situation to protect this vulnerable dog from its owner.
“The court made it clear that such disgusting behaviour will not be overlooked.”
